BELIZE WORK AND WITNESS - Missions Committee

We're excited that the Work and Witness trip to Belize is coming together so quickly and well under the leadership of Shawn Wilkerson. There may still be room for a few more people, so call Shawn (387-6428) or e-mail him (swilkerson@ewwd.org) as soon as possible if you'd like to be included.

DATES: The team will fly out of Sea-Tac on 6/23 and return to Sea-Tac on 7/6. We'll try to go to Seattle as a group, maybe in the church van. Total cost, as far as we know now, will be around $1,000 for R.T. travel, transportation and lodging. Food budget has yet to be decided - and you'll want some additional money for personal spending.

Our main focus/work this year will be roofing a pre-school building. The building was constructed by another church team, but, as yet, is roof-less. Shawn feels it may take a little over a week to complete the roof, working alongside Belize laborers. Luke and helpers also plan to set up a VBS-type program with local children. There should be plenty of time for relaxing, sight-seeing and getting to know some of the local people. Remember that Belize is an English-speaking country, which makes the work and fun, oh so much easier!

Attractions: Cotton Tree is located between Belmopan and Belize City, which is by the ocean, so hitting the beach is an option, as is visiting ancient Mayan ruins and a nearby wildlife sanctuary. We may look into a charter fishing trip.

Suggestions from the Belize church about things the team might want to bring along for the children included coloring books, crayons, pre-K type academic material, jump ropes and various sizes of balls for play. Fingernail polish can be a big hit among the little girls.

And if you can't join the team on this trip, remember to pray that they both work and witness well for the two weeks.

The following is from Nazarene Missions International:

As most of you have learned, the country of Haiti was hit with a devastating earthquake on Tuesday, January 12. Global NMI Director Daniel Ketchum is asking you to pray fervently for all those affected by the quake today, tomorrow, next week, and in the months and years to come as the people recover.

Dr. Ketchum also shared this morning from Louisville, Kentucky, where he was leading the NMI portion of the District Leadership Conference, "NMI district presidents went to prayer immediately Tuesday evening. We closed our session with Global NMI President Jennifer Brown, from the Caribbean Region, leading us in prayer for her Haitian friends and all of our leaders and church members in Haiti. This morning we reported the latest information from missionaries on the ground in Haiti and knelt and prayed for General Superintendent J.K. Warrick, who is currently in Haiti and safe, and all people across the island nation."

NCN News is carrying up-to-date information about the earthquake and the Church of the Nazarene's response. For more information, log on to www.ncnnews.com.

Thank you for praying for Haiti.

The following are praise reports and prayer requests from Nazarene Missions International for February, 2010:

JESUS Film Harvest Partners
Praise the Lord that as of January 20, 2010, JESUS Film Harvest Partners has shown the JESUS Film to 54.2 million people with 9.6 million people indicating a decision for Christ and 3.3 million people involved in initial discipleship and follow-up. In addition, 21,607 preaching points have started and more than 14,000 new pastors have been trained or are in training. Thank the Lord for His continued touch on the ministry of the JESUS Film Harvest Partners.

Poqomchi' Bibles
On January 22, 2010, the first copies of the Bible in the Poqomchi' language were delivered to Nazarene leaders in Tactic, Guatemala. The Poqomchi' translation was 20-years in the making and a single-voice narration of the JESUS Film was also completed recently in Poqomchi'. Pray for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the Poqomchi' people of Guatemala.

Haiti
The Church of the Nazarene in Haiti is strong and comprised of more than 115,000 members. Pray for our Haitian Nazarene brothers and sisters as they recover from the January 12 earthquake. Pray for strength for those who are ministering in their communities to hurt and grieving neighbors. Pray that agencies which are delivering aid can do so efficiently and safely. Pray that all people in Haiti receive the help they need. Pray for God's love and presence to be felt in a mighty way throughout the country. To keep in touch with how the Church of the Nazarene is responding, visit www.ncm.org/haitiearthquake.

Orphans and Vulnerable Children Program
Pray for the families who care for children infected with AIDS through the Orphans and Vulnerable Children Program (OVC) in Africa. OVC gives AIDS orphans a loving home and a church family that helps with their education. Pray that all the needs of the care-giving families are met. Pray for the children who are ministered to through the OVC, that they will come to know Jesus as Lord. OVC is a program of Nazarene Compassionate Ministries.

There are six current mission books available for anyone in the congregation and most of the books are also available on CD and/or cassette tape. These very small books, readable in less than a day, give first-hand accounts of Nazarene missionaries in various parts of the World. It's likely that someone on the Mission Council will hand you a booklet soon - read it and pass it on.

Adele Dirkse is the gate-keeper for these materials and with more questions you can contact her at 509-548-5533. Members of the Mission Council are responsible for distribution, so if you want to obtain one, see the following list.

I did go to college and stuff- got a degree in Special Ministries with an emphasis in Youth. Good times. I have been in youth ministry for 8+ years, and Jesus is teaching me new things everyday. My quiet times with Him are my greatest joy.Oh yeah, that mustache is the realio-dealio (if you count Spanish Moss).
Sunday Ministry To Kids - Children's Ministry

"Bringing children into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ"

The mission of LCN's Children's Ministry is to bring children into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. Our goal every week is to get kids on the right track by teaching them what it means to follow Jesus and how to apply those characteristics and values into their daily lives. We pray that children develop a lifelong personal relationship with our Savior, loving Him with all their heart, soul, mind and strength (Mark 12:30).

OVERVIEW OF SUNDAY SESSIONS:

SUNDAY SCHOOL

Kids learn the exciting stories of the Bible in an age appropriate format during this weekly session. Sunday School is from 9:30am to 10:15am. For those families that attend LCN's first service at 8:45am, children start out in the Worship Center for the singing and are dismissed at 9:30am for Sunday School.

CHILDREN'S CHURCH

Kids enjoy Bible stories, skits, games and activities, all with the purpose of applying the main point to their lives. This session occurs during LCN's second service. Kids start out in the Worship Center at 10:30am for the singing and are dismissed around 11:00am for Children's Church. Two classes are offered, Pre-K and 1st-5th grades. On the first Sunday of the month, 1st through 5th graders stay in the main service with their families.

INFANT/TODDLER CENTER

Even at the youngest ages, we believe in partnering with parents in introducing their children to Jesus. Childcare is provided for children ages 0 - 3 during our regularly scheduled weekly services.

Here at LCN, we provide a safe environment for children where all of our volunteers have been properly screened. This terrific staff loves kids and looks forward to helping them learn more about Jesus!

"Direct your children onto the right path and when they are older, they will not leave it." Proverbs 22:6

Upper Valley Christian School came into existence in 1979 as a ministry of the Leavenworth Church of the Nazarene because Pastor Jim West had a vision to begin a Christian School in the Upper Valley. It began with just 20 students, and is now ministering to 81 children and their families this year. In those years, we have had the opportunity to minister to around 600 students. Some of them have subsequently graduated from college, gone to the mission field, medical school, the military or other fields of endeavor. We have even had our first second-generation student enroll in 1994-95.

God has truly blessed UVCS in those years. He has been faithful in every way through difficult financial times, trials, and growth. His faithfulness to us demonstrates our need to be faithful to Him in everything that we do. This is His school above all else. He established it. He sustains it. Without Him, we would be lost. It is our responsibility to be faithful to Him who called us.

Why be a part of a denomination? - FAQs

A denomination provides two major benefits. First, it provides accountability in several places such as finances, leadership, morality, theology, etc. Second, it enhances a local churches ability, whether big or small to accomplish larger goals. LCN is able to support more ministries through the Nazarene denomination (i.e. church planting, missionaries, disaster relief, education, etc.) By pooling our resources and collaborating with other Nazarene churches, LCN is also able to provide quality ministry events for specific age groups. For example, our youth camps minister to hundreds of kids with incredible programming and staff due to its size.

While LCN values its relationship with other Nazarene churches,, it places a high value on unity in the body of Christ. We enjoy worshiping and serving cooperatively with many other local churches in our community.

Carol Matheson will be teaching Kindergarten at Upper Valley

Christian School in the year 2009-10. She has been teaching at

UVCS for seven years, and has been teaching 3rd and 4th grades

the last 5 years. Prior to her time at UVCS, Carol taught at St.

Paul's Lutheran School in Wenatchee and before that she taught

kindergarten at Wenatchee Christian Academy. Carol has a love for

kindergarten age students and is looking forward to providing a

exciting learning environment for them to begin their school careers.

It is my great desire that, above all else, your child's first year of school be filled with a confidence in learning. I believe this is entirely possible if the focus is on Christ and the wonderful scriptures that states, "I can do all things through Him who strengthens me." (Phil. 4:13). Ours is a "can do" classroom. From day one through day 180, your child will be trained in "God-fidence" (confidence) as they explore the world of learning spiritually, emotionally, socially, and intellectually. Our Kindergarten curriculum of Phonics, Math, and monthly/seasonal theme units is highly integrated to include all learning styles. Thus, no child is left without the opportunity to progress in all aspects of learning. Each day is new and exciting; an adventure in life that will result in a happy, knowledge, and most importantly, "God-fident" child. ~ Carol Matheson

Tuition - UVCS - Administration

Tuition & Fees 2009-2010

It is the policy of U.V.C.S. to keep the costs of schooling within the reach of everyone. We operate on a very close budget. Therefore it is imperative that all accounts be paid on time. When a payment is missed, the budget suffers. Parents are responsible to the Lord for their children's care.

Tuition and fees for Upper Valley Christian School have been established as follows:

1. A materials fee of $225 for kindergartners, $335 for 1st - 8th, $395 for High School is

due at the time of registration. This payment will ensure that your child has a seat in school for the coming year. This fee will cover one year's supply of text books.

Students must furnish their own pencils, crayons, erasers, scissors, lined paper, note books and Kleenex.

2. A fee of $50 will be charged to any non-UVCS student given an achievement test.

3. Tuition may be paid in full, or in ten monthly installments. If paid by the month, payments are due on the first of each month and are considered late after the tenth. A late fee of $25 will be added if not paid by the tenth of the month.

4. Tuition checks are to be made out to UVCS, but deposited with the Leavenworth Branch of Cashmere Valley Bank. Payments may be dropped off or mailed to Cashmere Valley Bank, PO Box 249, Leavenworth, WA, 98826. The first payment is due Aug. 1st.

5. Visa or MasterCard may be used for all accounts. Please see the office for details.

In brief, we believe:That there is one God - The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. That the Old and New Testament Scriptures, given plenary inspiration, contain all truth necessary to faith and Christian living. That man is born with a fallen nature and therefore is inclined to evil, and that continually. That the atonement through Jesus Christ is for the whole human race, and that whosoever repents and believes on the Lord Jesus Christ is justified and regenerated and saved from condemnation of sin. That the finally impenitent are hopelessly and eternally lost. That the believers are to be sanctified wholly and subsequent to regeneration, through the faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. That our Lord will return, the dead will be raised, and the final judgement will take place.

Encourage all who come to Celebrate Recovery that no matter what they are struggling with, God has the power to help them overcome.

Consciously choose to commit ourselves to loving each other as God has loved us.

Offer to those seeking help a safe place to share, a place of belonging, a place to take off the masks we wear and a place where confidentiality is highly regarded.

Value each person and help each other grow spiritually by learning God's principles of recovery.

Experience the joy of fellowship with others who are walking similar paths of recovery.

Respect all our relationships; offer forgiveness as God has offered forgiveness.

Yield ourselves to God and accept this time as a turning point in life to walk in freedom from our past hurts, habits and hang-ups.

Welcome to the Leavenworth Church of the Nazarene's Celebrate Recovery ministry page.

We began our vision of for ministry in early 2006 by praying that God would lead us and direct our paths. We needed the right people who had a burning desire to share healing power of God's Word with everyone who were struggling with hurts, hang-ups and habits that were impacting their lives in negative and dysfunctional ways.

In October of 2007, God answered that prayer by bringing together several individuals who were walking their own road to recovery and who admitted that they were powerless over their addictions and compulsive behaviors. All had previously been involved with Celebrate Recovery and knew that the power of God had helped them overcome their hurts, hang-ups and habits. In April 2008 we launched our ministry.

Our desire is that Celebrate Recovery will grow into a valuable outreach to men and women throughout the Leavenworth area who are secretly struggling with hurts, habits and hang-ups and provide these individuals a place to be set free to enjoy the peace, serenity, and joy that comes from knowing Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
