Upper Valley Christian School came into existence in 1979 as a ministry of the Leavenworth Church of the Nazarene because Pastor Jim West had a vision to begin a Christian School in the Upper Valley. It began with just 20 students, and is now ministering to 81 children and their families this year. In those years, we have had the opportunity to minister to around 600 students. Some of them have subsequently graduated from college, gone to the mission field, medical school, the military or other fields of endeavor. We have even had our first second-generation student enroll in 1994-95.

God has truly blessed UVCS in those years. He has been faithful in every way through difficult financial times, trials, and growth. His faithfulness to us demonstrates our need to be faithful to Him in everything that we do. This is His school above all else. He established it. He sustains it. Without Him, we would be lost. It is our responsibility to be faithful to Him who called us.

New UVCS Administrator/Teacher Hired - Home

June 4, 2010

Dear Friends and Family of Upper Valley Christian School,

We are pleased to announce that we have made a unanimous decision in the selection of our new Administrator. While we had several highly qualified applicants to select from, Dan Wilkinson was the clear choice to lead our school.

Dan's love for the Lord, his dedication to teaching, leadership skills and nurturing way with students was apparent to us all. Dan has over 27 years of experience in the field of education ranging from support staff to administrative leadership. He received his bachelor of arts at California State University and his Masters of Arts in Education/School Administration at Fresno Pacific University. He currently holds a Washington State Residency Administrator credential and a Washington State Teaching Credential.

In 2007 Dan and his wife Becky felt God calling them to move near their children who resided in Leavenworth. Becky was hired as the school counselor at Osborn elementary. Dan began serving as the After School Program Manager/Enrichment Teacher at Osborn Elementary. In addition to his love for education, Dan loves dirt. He has transformed his property up the icicle into a productive, organic, farm. Through his newly formed CSA he has been able to provide many families with local produce, direct from the farmer. You can learn more about this part of Dan’s life at www.rootsproduceandflowerfarm.com

To their surprise, shortly after they moved to Leavenworth to be closer to their kids, their son took a job in Texas and moved! Dan and Becky, were disappointed, but believed God had opened the door for their move to Leavenworth. They decided to stay and trust the Lord would lead them.
As they “stayed the course” they have enjoyed new friendships, a love for Cornerstone Bible Church and now an opportunity to serve families at Upper Valley Christian School. And wouldn’t you know it, guess who’s trying to move back to Leavenworth...their kids!

We believe God has been writing this story, preparing this man for a time such as this. Please join us in welcoming Dan and Becky Wilkinson to the Upper Valley Christian School.

In His Service,
UVCS School Board

Journey Student Ministries is the youth ministry of the Leavenworth Church of the Nazarene. We are a group of students (grades 6-12) who are committed to bringing teen families into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. We call ourselves Journey Student Ministries (JSM) because we are all on our journey towards Christ and his Kingdom together and when we journey together we journey better. Our Youth Pastor is James O'Connell, but our ministry is us.

Sunday Night Youth Worship

Sunday nights we have a relaxed worship experience at Pastor James' house. It's a small gorup that crams into his living room and sings some worship songs... "YOU PICK" style. After worship, we break out some board games. Worship starts at 6:30 PM. Pastor James' house is the first house past the church on Prospect Street.

Wednesday Night Small Groups

During the school year, we offer several small groups for students on Wednesday nights. Middle school students in grades 6-8 are invited to join us for some intense, fun games at 6:30 and then we have a couple of different small groups just for middle schoolers. High Schoolers can show up early and hang out or play Beattle's Rock Band and at 6:30 PM there are a couple different small groups for them to choose to be a part of. Whatever your age, there's something special just for you!

Tuition & Fees 2010-2011

It is the policy of U.V.C.S. to keep the costs of schooling within the reach of everyone. We operate on a very close budget. Therefore it is imperative that all accounts be paid on time. When a payment is missed, the budget suffers. Parents are responsible to the Lord for their children's care.

Tuition and fees for Upper Valley Christian School have been established as follows:

1. A materials fee of $225 for kindergartners, $335 for 1st - 8th, $395 for High School is

due at the time of registration. This payment will ensure that your child has a seat in school for the coming year. This fee will cover one year's supply of text books.

Students must furnish their own pencils, crayons, erasers, scissors, lined paper, note books and Kleenex.

3. Tuition may be paid in full, or in ten monthly installments. If paid by the month, payments are due on the first of each month and are considered late after the tenth. A late fee of $25 will be added if not paid by the tenth of the month.

4. Tuition checks are to be made out to UVCS, but deposited with the Leavenworth Branch of Cashmere Valley Bank. Payments may be dropped off or mailed to Cashmere Valley Bank, PO Box 249, Leavenworth, WA, 98826. The first payment is due Aug. 1st.

5. Visa or MasterCard may be used for all accounts. Please see the office for details.

In brief, we believe:That there is one God - The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. That the Old and New Testament Scriptures, given plenary inspiration, contain all truth necessary to faith and Christian living. That man is born with a fallen nature and therefore is inclined to evil, and that continually. That the atonement through Jesus Christ is for the whole human race, and that whosoever repents and believes on the Lord Jesus Christ is justified and regenerated and saved from condemnation of sin. That the finally impenitent are hopelessly and eternally lost. That the believers are to be sanctified wholly and subsequent to regeneration, through the faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. That our Lord will return, the dead will be raised, and the final judgement will take place.

Carol Matheson will be teaching Kindergarten at Upper Valley

Christian School in the year 2010-11. She has been teaching at

UVCS for eight years, and has taught 3rd and 4th grades

in the past. Prior to her time at UVCS, Carol taught at St.

Paul's Lutheran School in Wenatchee and before that she taught

kindergarten at Wenatchee Christian Academy. Carol has a love for

kindergarten age students and is looking forward to providing a

exciting learning environment for them to begin their school careers.

It is my great desire that, above all else, your child's first year of school be filled with a confidence in learning. I believe this is entirely possible if the focus is on Christ and the wonderful scriptures that states, "I can do all things through Him who strengthens me." (Phil. 4:13). Ours is a "can do" classroom. From day one through day 180, your child will be trained in "God-fidence" (confidence) as they explore the world of learning spiritually, emotionally, socially, and intellectually. Our Kindergarten curriculum of Phonics, Math, and monthly/seasonal theme units is highly integrated to include all learning styles. Thus, no child is left without the opportunity to progress in all aspects of learning. Each day is new and exciting; an adventure in life that will result in a happy, knowledge, and most importantly, "God-fident" child. ~ Carol Matheson

Sunday & Wednesday Ministry To Kids - Children's Ministry

"Bringing children into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ"

The mission of LCN's Children's Ministry is to bring children into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. Our goal every week is to get kids on the right track by teaching them what it means to follow Jesus and how to apply those characteristics and values into their daily lives. We pray that children develop a lifelong personal relationship with our Savior, loving Him with all their heart, soul, mind and strength (Mark 12:30).

SUNDAY SESSIONS

SUNDAY SCHOOL

Kids learn the exciting stories of the Bible in an age appropriate format during this weekly session. Sunday School is from 9:30am to 10:15am. For those families that attend LCN's first service at 8:45am, children start out in the Worship Center for the singing and are dismissed at 9:30am for Sunday School.

CHILDREN'S CHURCH

Kids enjoy Bible stories, skits, games and activities, all with the purpose of applying the main point to their lives. This session occurs during LCN's second service. Kids start out in the Worship Center at 10:30am for the singing and are dismissed around 11:00am for Children's Church. Two classes are offered, Pre-K and 1st-5th grades. On the first Sunday of the month, 1st through 5th graders stay in the main service with their families.

WEDNESDAY NIGHTS

LIVE OUT LOUD

At LOL children participate in small groups for a time of sharing, prayer and a Bible lesson and then come together for an energetic game time! Pre-K kids stay in their room for play time fun. LOL meets from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm and runs September through April.

INFANT/TODDLER CENTER

Even at the youngest ages, we believe in partnering with parents in introducing their children to Jesus. Childcare is provided for children ages 0 - 3 during our regularly scheduled weekly services.

Here at LCN, we provide a safe environment for children where all of our volunteers have been properly screened. This terrific staff loves kids and looks forward to helping them learn more about Jesus!

"Direct your children onto the right path and when they are older, they will not leave it." Proverbs 22:6

I feel so fortunate that God has asked me to do this. I have a totally SWEET family! Lindsey is my wife and an amazing one at that. Ryan is "me boy" who loves to wrestle and pretend is a tiger and recently a bear with paws. Annie is my youngest daughter and is already a looker! What a "Pinkus"! I did go to college and stuff- got a degree in Special Ministries with an emphasis in Youth. Good times. I have been in youth ministry for 8+ years, and Jesus is teaching me new things everyday. My quiet times with Him are my greatest joy.Oh yeah, that mustache is the realio-dealio (if you count Spanish Moss). You can check it out thoroughly at my MySpace account at pastorjames.net or you could just send me an email.

Why be a part of a denomination? - FAQs

A denomination provides two major benefits. First, it provides accountability in several places such as finances, leadership, morality, theology, etc. Second, it enhances a local churches ability, whether big or small to accomplish larger goals. LCN is able to support more ministries through the Nazarene denomination (i.e. church planting, missionaries, disaster relief, education, etc.) By pooling our resources and collaborating with other Nazarene churches, LCN is also able to provide quality ministry events for specific age groups. For example, our youth camps minister to hundreds of kids with incredible programming and staff due to its size.

While LCN values its relationship with other Nazarene churches,, it places a high value on unity in the body of Christ. We enjoy worshiping and serving cooperatively with many other local churches in our community.

Realize that all people have worth and are loved by God.

Encourage all who come to Celebrate Recovery that no matter what they are struggling with, God has the power to help them overcome.

Consciously choose to commit ourselves to loving each other as God has loved us.

Offer to those seeking help a safe place to share, a place of belonging, a place to take off the masks we wear and a place where confidentiality is highly regarded.

Value each person and help each other grow spiritually by learning God's principles of recovery.

Experience the joy of fellowship with others who are walking similar paths of recovery.

Respect all our relationships; offer forgiveness as God has offered forgiveness.

Yield ourselves to God and accept this time as a turning point in life to walk in freedom from our past hurts, habits and hang-ups.

Welcome to the Leavenworth Church of the Nazarene's Celebrate Recovery ministry page.

We began our vision of for ministry in early 2006 by praying that God would lead us and direct our paths. We needed the right people who had a burning desire to share healing power of God's Word with everyone who were struggling with hurts, hang-ups and habits that were impacting their lives in negative and dysfunctional ways.

In October of 2007, God answered that prayer by bringing together several individuals who were walking their own road to recovery and who admitted that they were powerless over their addictions and compulsive behaviors. All had previously been involved with Celebrate Recovery and knew that the power of God had helped them overcome their hurts, hang-ups and habits. In April 2008 we launched our ministry.

Our desire is that Celebrate Recovery will grow into a valuable outreach to men and women throughout the Leavenworth area who are secretly struggling with hurts, habits and hang-ups and provide these individuals a place to be set free to enjoy the peace, serenity, and joy that comes from knowing Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

How do we want to be known in the future?

As recipients of God's mercy and grace, we desire to be an authentic, grace-giving community of Christ' followers, who love God, love the people of God, and love the world as God loves the world.
